Plain sailing for Heason
NEAR perfect conditions were reflected in some great racing at North Devon Yacht Club over the weekend.
On Saturday, in blustery force-four winds and a huge spring tide, it was down to experience and a stout heart to make the best of things.
Fifteen sailors took to the water and Keith Heason won the Sprint 15 class by four after leading from start to finish. Dave Warren was second.
Sam Heaton triumphed in the fast cat fleet ahead of Garry Jennings, while J Farr led the way in the mono-hull fleet.
In the Brannam Cup, Harry Cobby led the fleet of young sailors home with five minutes to spare. Emma Williams held off the challenge of Eric Smith for second.
Sunday's racing saw 22 sailors take part in four classes, in force three to four winds.
In the fast cat fleet, Rob Way and Penny Slee, on their Spitfire, took the honours.
The Sprint 15s were again led home by the in-form Heason, who was at the front from the start, eventually winning by eight minutes.
Gareth Wakley won in the mono hulls.
Richard Newing and his wife, Hillary, once triumphed in the boats race ahead of Jim Boyd and Mike Rayner.
