AN application has been lodged to build a chicken shed, a feed silo and a wind turbine on agricultural land near Bishops Nympton.

The application, put forward by freight company Ap & Va Maddox Ltd, is for farm land measuring roughly 25 hectares at Hilltown Farm in Mariansleigh.

The applicant wants to build a chicken shed of 369 square metres to provide free-range egg production.

This would be achieved using sustainable wind power, provided by the small wind turbine, and solar energy, provided by panels on the shed roof.

It is also proposed that a bank would be built around the development to shelter the building from the road and village.

Replies are due from consulting bodies on February 18.
