Plans for Holsworthy CCTV a step closer after Barry Parsons applies for funding
PLANS for CCTV in Holsworthy are a step closer to fruition after the leader of Torridge District Council agreed to apply for a grant which could fund cameras in the town.
Councillor Barry Parsons has submitted an application asking for £4,500 from the Investing In Devon grant. Money for the grant comes from a share in the sale of Exeter Airport.

ON CAMERA: Plans for CCTV are welcomed in Holsworthy.
Mr Parsons has applied for the grant on behalf of Holsworthy Town Council. If successful the cash will be used to buy and install three surveillance cameras in the town centre.
After having consulted with the police, businesses and the community, Holsworthy Town Council will be putting up the cameras in Fore Street and the square.

Mr Parsons said he was hopeful the grant would be successful. He said: "I have already submitted an application. I hope this will be approved in the beginning of next year.
"With the recent issues in Holsworthy we need to do something to help support the community."
Several premises in the square have been broken into over the past few months including Nature's Way, Stonehenge Ephemera, Homeclean and Blak Property.
The news of a possible CCTV system being introduced has been seen as a positive step by shopkeepers Steve Whitelaw and Eric Partridge.
Eric's shop Stonehenge Ephemera, known as the Ebay shop, was broken into in September. Around £6,000 worth of valuables were taken. Eric said: "The news CCTV might be installed is long overdue. I applaud everyone who has been involved in the decision making process."
Steve's shop, Nature's Way, was broken into in August. He said: "The news is a step in the right direction, a positive move for the town. If approved CCTV will be a big help in Holsworthy."
Lisa Bowman, Holsworthy town clerk said the council has considered the privacy issues surrounding the CCTV project. She said: "The council is working on establishing safe camera usage protocols to ensure compliance with privacy provisions.
"All recorded vision will be strictly managed under these rules.
"Protecting our community, and saving money are some of the benefits which the council hopes will arise as a result of this initiative."
If approved the cameras will be mounted on the council chambers.
The equipment will also have the ability to record the number plates of vehicles entering and leaving the square.
