Plans for Ilfracombe's all-weather pitch now one step closer
PLANS for an all-weather sports pitch in Ilfracombe came one step closer to fruition this week when North Devon Council agreed to release more than £20,000 towards the project.
The authority’s executive committee voted in favour of releasing Section 106 money to support the project at its monthly meeting on Tuesday.

Last month the Journal revealed plans for the state-of-the-art 3G pitch which would be sited on hard courts at Ilfracombe Arts College.
Funding has been secured from Devon County Council, Ilfracombe Arts College, Ilfracombe Town Council and North Devon Council and support has been pledged by the Football Foundation and Ilfracombe Town Football Club.

However, there is still a project shortfall of £50,000.
The council is currently working with the college to apply for a grant from Fullabrook Community Interest Company (CIC) for the remaining amount.
Derrick Spear, North Devon Council’s executive member for culture, said: “We’re so close to achieving this project, which has been eight years in the making and has suffered various setbacks along the way.
“Securing the final £50,000 is so important now.
“As part of the application process we need clubs and groups who will make use of the pitch to come forward and tell us, so we can show Fullabrook CIC how much this facility is needed.”
Sports and community groups interested in using the pitch should complete an expression of interest form, including the postcodes of all their group members.
The form can be completed online at www.northdevon.gov.uk/ilfracombepitch or you can contact Richard Slaney on 01271 318533.
