CHIPPED, mashed, boiled or roasted – there are so many ways to enjoy your spuds. Potatoes are one of the easiest vegetables to cultivate so are an excellent choice for foodies who want to start growing their own veg.

Growing your own can certainly save you money, however, for many gardeners the best reason to grow potatoes is flavour. The taste of new potatoes that have been cooked and presented on the plate within half an hour of digging certainly takes some beating.

If you plan to grow potatoes this year then you might like to get along to Eggesford Gardens' Potato Day on Saturday, February 4, 11am to 4pm.

As well as over 70 varieties to choose from, there will be advice from local horticultural expert David Loder and special offers and competitions for all the family. Entry is free.
