Police called to man ‘in distress’ on A39 Torridge Bridge

Police officers were called to Torridge Bridge this afternoon following reports of a man looking ‘distressed’ at the roadside.

A member of the public rang 999 after becoming concerned for the man’s welfare at around 2.25pm.

He was described as being “crouched over” and “distressed”.

Police and ambulance attended the scene on the A39 and the 28-year-old man, who is from Bideford, was assessed by paramedics before being taken to North Devon District Hospital.

There were reports of heavy traffic on the A39 between Bideford and Barnstaple while the incident was dealt with.
