PUPILS across North Devon battled out their knowledge of books at an annual quiz at Barnstaple Children's Library.

Thirteen schools, consisting of teams of three, took part in the eighth Inter School World Book Day Quiz.

St Mary's in Bideford were crowned overall winners on the day, with pupils from Swimbridge clinching second place.

Other primary schools which took part were defending champions Landkey, West Down, Beaford, West Croft, St Margaret's, Marwood, Ashleigh, Bratton Fleming, Combe Martin, Holywell and Woolacombe.

The winning team will be presented with a Shield by Sharon Dixon tomorrow.
