Raiders training to start
NORTH Devon Raiders will hold their first pre-season training session at Barnstaple's Pottington Road ground on Wednesday (6.45pm).
Raiders spokesman Keith Fillingham is urging potential players to go along ahead of the club's Co-operative Rugby League Conference campaign which starts next month.
He said: "With just four weeks to the new season, it is important for any players interested in playing for the Raiders to come along to training, where they can learn the differences between league and union and begin working on game-plans with our coaching team led by Ben Parry."
Raiders are hoping to attract a number of players from North Devon's rugby union clubs.
Club secretary Roy Spear said: "We have had a fair response from all over North Devon and have circulated the local rugby union clubs pointing out the positives they can gain from their players playing league in the summer.
"Now, with the season getting closer, we need to be thinking about forming a squad for our inaugural season in the South West Conference."
They face 10 league fixtures against clubs from Devon, Somerset and Dorset during May, June and July. However, due to a grouping system used in compiling the fixtures, they only have one trip outside the county, to South Dorset Giants in Weymouth.
Their opening league match will be against Devon Sharks at Pottington on Sunday, May 9.
