NORTH Devon Raiders will be in action for the first time on Bank Holiday Monday, but they may not have any shirts.

The region's new rugby league club will be taking part in the South West Nines at Exhibition Fields in Exeter.

While the players already have shorts and socks, the shirts are still in Pakistan, their arrival delayed by the volcanic ash cloud's affect on air travel.

The Nines is an important event for the Raiders ahead of the Co-operative Rugby League Conference season, which starts on Sunday, May 9, against Devon Sharks at Pottington Road in Barnstaple.

Spokesman Keith Fillingham said: "With the union season carrying on later than normal, we haven't been able to fix up any pre-season friendlies, so the Nines have taken on even more importance."

Anyone interested in playing for the Raiders is urged to attend training at Pottington Road on Wednesday (6.45pm).
