A BIDEFORD couple are raising money for a children's hospital in the London Marathon.

Andy and Liz Warner are running for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal.

The appeal is supporting the children's hospital in Bristol.

The super fit couple from Bideford Athletic Club are part of a select group — just seven people — to have been entered by the charity in the race.

Andy is a local police officer and it will be his fifth marathon.

Liz is a self-employed gardener and it is her first attempt.

Liz said: "Training is going well with Andy running around 50 miles a week and me around 35.

"We are running for Bristol Children's Hospital. We visited the hospital last week for a tour and learnt more about where our money will be spent.

"It is a hugely worthwhile cause, being one of the leading children's hospitals in the UK treating more than 70,000 children every year from Bristol and the entire South West region.

"It also provides the only intensive care facility for children in the South West and pioneers work in the treatment of childhood leukaemia and bone marrow transplants."

The Warners have so far raised more than £700.
