NSA: raise awareness by reporting sheep worrying
Leaders of the National Sheep Association (NSA) are asking farmers and landowners to report any incidents they see of sheep chasing by dogs.
They intend to log all cases as part of a new service to help tackle what is considered a serious trend.
The chief executive of NSA Phil Stocker said the aim of the new log is to create an accurate picture of cases of sheep worrying across the UK, providing information that can be used to increase awareness and improve responsible behaviour by dog owners.
The service will be offered to all UK sheep producers, whether or not they are members of the NSA.
The reports will be categorised in areas and levels of seriousness.
It will also help raise awareness of the risks of tapeworm infection due to ineffective worming of dogs.
Mr Stocker added: "We hope this new service will provide valuable information to benefit sheep producers.
" I would urge any farmer to phone the NSA on 01684 892661 in full confidence and report any cases of sheep worrying they experience."
