Rivals hit for six by junior boxers at Barnstaple ABC show
SIX Barnstaple boxers stepped into the ring for junior bouts – and all six had their arms raised in victory.
An outstanding night was capped by a superb showing from Jordan Jones.
A year on from his home debut, the teenager displayed new maturity with a classy performance against Joel Clyde-Smith, of Priorswood.
By the second round, his speed and precision were proving too much for the boxer from Taunton.

And Jones, smiling throughout, could hardly wait to get up from his stool for the final round. He finished the job in style, taking a unanimous points win with his best display yet.
Joe Freeman had rounded off the first half of the evening with a rousing triumph against Steven Clarke, of Sturminster Newton.
The contest sprang to life in the second when Freeman was forced onto the ropes and caught by a speedy left hand. But he seized momentum with a flurry of shots to finish the round on the front foot and set up a fascinating last two minutes.
The home favourite thrilled fans with another furious onslaught at the start of the third before both boxers incurred points deductions for holding.
As the Sturminster coach was warned for comments from the corner, the lads in the ring kept their heads, both giving everything to the last.
And while the pace inevitably dropped, the persistence of 'Jersey' Joe paid off with a tight points decision.
Brandon 'Mad Dog' Maddock only needed a week to bite back after being stopped by Kyle Pearson, of Sturminster Newton.
Maintaining a tight guard and landing strong right hands, he boxed with composure to win the rematch by split decision.
It went to a majority, too, as Mitch Turner had the edge over Kyle Baldwin, of Portland. Baldwin had the slight reach advantage but Turner stuck to the task, picking his shots to beat a strong, stocky opponent.
Jack Benham and Pat Morton demonstrated speed and skill to take unanimous wins.
On his home debut, Benham looked at ease, throwing jabs and combinations in a fast-paced contest with Ashley Phelps, of Weymouth.
Morton stepped in with slick one-twos against Watchet's Liam Hoyle, increasingly finding his way through as the contest went on.
Three newcomers – Ben Stone and brothers Flynn and Troy Elworthy – took part in skills bouts.
