CUP racing tested sailors from North Devon Yacht Club with members battling for the Woolworth Paddle and IGB Trophy.

Despite unfavourable conditions over the weekend, Rob Way and crew Penny Slee led the way in the fast cats competition, winning the Paddle.

And the IBG Trophy, for the Sprint 15s, went to Barry Vincent who recorded two wins and two second places over the two days.

Light winds on Saturday made racing tedious at times but Vincent and Way did enough to become overnight leaders.

In a rare moment of action, Dave Warren capsized just yards from the finish, claiming it was the down-draught from a helicopter that caused him to pitch pole.

As the mist rolled in, Sunday's racing looked doubtful before the sun burst through just after noon.

Way and Slee set the pace again, winning the Woolworth Paddle ahead of runner-up Sam Heaton and John Mitchell, and John Barnett in third.

Keith Heason was on form to record two convincing wins in the Sprint 15s but that was not enough to overhaul Vincent.

Warren took second in the IBG and Dane Stanley was third.

Alix Raymont is believed to be the club's youngest sailor to win a Sunday series race after a tactically perfect performance gave her victory the previous weekend.
