WITH spades at the ready, eager young gardeners from Ilfracombe Juniors have been out planting their fruit trees this week.

And following the

Journal's

story about the school's plan to 'plant for all' on verges and public spaces in the town, more donations have been handed in at the school.

Chris Howard who has been organising the scheme at the school explained: "We have now received raspberry canes and an offer of some loganberry canes, in addition to the 12 fruit trees that Greener Ilfracombe and Ilfracombe Juniors have bought to give the scheme a start."

Now they are looking for more patches of disused land around Ilfracombe, where they can plant the fruit trees and bushes, so that everyone can enjoy them.

"If anyone has a patch of disused land, a grass border outside their house, or know of an area that could be enhanced in Ilfracombe with some fruit trees or bushes, we would be glad to hear from them.

"The council have not yet given a verdict on whether we can plant in the other areas that the children wrote to them about, so we are looking for land."

Chris also thanked the people who offered them fruit canes, for their generosity.
