Second year for scenic rural run
THE UMBERLEIGH Rural Run returns next month as part of the village's annual garden show and fete.
Last year was the first time a race had been hosted in the fete's 88-year history and the multi-terrain route proved popular.
Secretary Pat Shallcross said: "The scenery is stunning. The route is approximately four miles in the picturesque hills and dales of the Taw Valley.
"It takes you through the forest, along the riverbank, by tracks, roads and woodland paths."
All finishers receive a commemorative T-shirt and trophies are on offer for the first man and woman.
Starting at 3pm from Umberleigh Village Hall on August 7, the minimum age for taking part is 18 and the event is limited to 100 runners.
Entry costs £5 in advance or £7 on the day.
Simon Oliver, of St John's Garden Centre, who was race director for the recent North Devon AONB Marathon, will open the fete at 2.30pm.
The garden show has classes for flowers and vegetables, and other attractions at the fete include pony rides, craft stalls and a dog show
