Upon arrival, crews found the male driver of the 4x4 trapped in the vehicle. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut him free.
He was suffering chest pains and minor cuts and was treated by paramedics.
The incident was passable, via lane one, although there were heavy traffic queues in the area.
The vehicle was recovered and all three carriageways of the motorway have since reopened.
