Shaun Antell sets personal best at Reading Half Marathon

TWO weeks after setting a personal best in the Bideford Half Marathon, Shaun Antell has improved again.

The Bideford Blues athlete finished 13th in the Reading Half Marathon in 68mins 19secs – beating his best time by almost a minute.

It was a good weekend for the Blues as Mark Jenkin wrapped up the Brooks Westward League cross country title.

Finishing second at the final meeting in Plymouth, he secured the senior men's prize for a second time.

After a strong run on the final day, Alec McLaren, of Bideford, claimed third in the M55 category.

Hannah Blair, of Torrington AAC, finished seventh overall in the senior women's event and her mother Marilyn was third W50.

Robbie Murray, of Bideford AAC, completed the Barcelona Marathon, his debut at the distance, in 3hrs 17mins 42secs. Jimmy Murray clocked 2-52-29 and Sam Pontin 4-57-44.

Chris Simpson, of South Molton Strugglers, has completed his first ultra marathon. He finished the 44-mile Exmoor Coastal race in 10hrs 7mins.

Brian and Joyce Mulholland, of North Devon Road Runners, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary by running in the Grizzly event hosted by Axe Valley Runners.

Brian finished the 20-mile off-road race in 4hrs 14mins and Joyce took on the Cub Run of approximately nine miles, finishing in 2hrs 11mins.

Their four granddaughters completed the 2km fun run. Erin Duncan, 4, finished in 19-50 and Ava Duncan, 2, completed the course in 33-26. Grace Bruton, 7, clocked 21-35 and Darcy Bruton, 2, 32-15.

In the Junior Grizzly over 4km, Brian's niece Holly Hunt, 11, of Ilfracombe College, finished in 23mins 50secs.
