A LYNTON store has been saving the pennies to give something back to the community — with a little help from their customers.

Costcutters in Lynton has given £1,000 to the Holman Park Project.

Manager Jeremy Lamprell said: "Certain products generate a penny or two towards a fund that is held by Costcutters. When it reaches a certain point, the company asks us if we want to donate it locally, otherwise it goes back into a national charitable fund.

"So we thought it should stay local and have put it towards the new facilities out at Holman Park."

The Holman Park Project is aiming to enhance and expand on sporting and community facilities, with a new eco-friendly clubhouse to include homes for existing sporting clubs, a new gym and educational facilities.

Project chairman David Mirow said: "It's going extremely well and we are now at the stage where we will be submitting a planning application."
