SOUTH MOLTON showed they are serious about promotion with a ton of points.

Harry Kingdon and Matt Smart both scored hat-tricks as second-placed Molton ran in 14 tries to thrash Dartmouth, Tribute Devon One's bottom side, 100-0.

Gary Bucknell, the head coach, said the triumph came because they had relaxed about the prospect of going up to the Cornwall/Devon division following a one-point defeat to fellow challengers Totnes last time out.

"I felt that in the Totnes game we almost played in fear of promotion," said Bucknell. "We had a chat about it and the players were a bit more relaxed about the situation.

"I was very impressed with their performance, it's not easy to put 100 points on any side.

"We couldn't have done that maybe a month ago because we were trying to force the play or were trying things that don't work. They're quite a handful when they get going."

Never before has the #MightyMolton hashtag the players use when discussing the team's fortunes on Twitter been so appropriate.

Joining Kingdon and Smart on the scoresheet were Luke Doyle, Reece Andrews (two), Courtney Lucas (two), Dom Stoneman, Andy Pinkett and Aidan Irving.

Former colt Stoneman, making his first-team debut at fly half, also kicked six conversions and a penalty, while Kingdon added five conversions and Smart one conversion and one penalty.

"I said at half time, 'I'm not sure what the biggest win is but let's go for it'," said Bucknell. "I'm pretty confident it's our highest score in the league."

South Molton's promotion potential will face a real test on Saturday when they go to leaders Exeter University.
