Firefighters, including a specialist rescue team, were called to Meldon Quarry, near Okehampton, on Sunday afternoon following a report of a sheep stuck at the quarry.

Upon arrival they found a sheep that was neither up nor down, but trapped in the middle on a ledge.

The animal was approximately eight metres up the quarry face from the bottom 15 metres below them.

The specialist rescue team from Camels Head Fire Station in Plymouth rescued the sheep from the quarry face using special equipment and a triple extension ladder.
