Star of G-Force chats to What's On
I HAD the opportunity to interview British screen veteran and star of G-Force, Bill Nighy, when he was in London recently.Star of both TV and the silver screen, Nighy has starred in projects as diverse as the acclaimed TV show State Of Play to Richard Curtis' rom-com Love Actually to mega blockbusters such as Pirates Of The Caribbean and the Underworld series.G-Force re-teams Nighy with his Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer in the big Disney summer movie.Would he do another Pirates movie? "I was in America last week and they confirmed there is a fourth. Johnny is confirmed, I don't know anything else about it, no more than you do. I certainly don't know if I would be in it. I'd be very happy to be in it."He went to say that the whole experience on Pirates was delightful: "It turned out be one of the nicest experiences I have had professionally." No great hardship one would imagine shooting a movie with Johnny Depp in the Caribbean for several months. From one mega blockbuster to another Bill is about to make the daily journey to Leavesden Studios near Watford where the final instalment of the Harry Potter series is being filmed."I am. I've finally made it onto Harry Potter, and I was beginning to feel a bit excluded. I think they ran out of English actors. They tried really hard not to but now they had to ask me. I'm in it, and I'm pleased and I start next week."Having started in the theatre primarily, did he ever envisage being a marquee movie star in big, expensive blockbuster movies?"I'm very happy that I get to be in the movies. It was a sort of accident; I was in a movie because everybody else turned it down basically!"Working on a Jerry Bruckheimer movie has many perks according to Bill: "From a working point of view everything goes smoothly and decently. You're looked after very well."Bill would happily do another Richard Curtis movie (his latest project is Lost For Words): "I'd do another Richard Curtis movie like a shot. If my life involved going to work with Richard Curtis every day then I'd be very, very happy. I admire him as much as I admire anybody. He's a very decent bloke and a good laugh."I finished up our interview by asking him if he had a chance of another life what it would be: he told me he would be a piano player or play the guitar. "And I'd like to sing too, if I could sing. I'd like to sing the blues like Van Morrison sings them. I think he is an absolute genius, without question. One of the few people you can in complete confidence use the word genius in the same sentence."A real, polished charmer is Bill Nighy but I have to confess to being a tad disappointed as he gave exactly the same answers on a TV interview broadcast just after I met him.Pavlovian is the expression for such well trained reflexes, I think.Nighy will next be seen or rather heard in animated movie, Astro Boy.G-Force, Bill Nighy, when he was in London recently.
