Stephens sinks his old team
FORMER Park United goalkeeper Ben Stephens showed his old team-mates what they are missing when Torrington thumped the Journal League Intermediate One leaders 7-2.
Stephens, operating in midfield these days, struck twice in a fine display, helping Torrie to their biggest win since the 7-0 success against Lynton in September.
One week after scoring his first hat-trick, Paul Sullivan claimed a second, while Danny Jenkins netted twice.
It was a fitting performance from the Greens, coming the day after the funeral of team-mate Daylin Brown.
Two goals from Kevin Buck, including an early opener, couldn't prevent leaders Park slipping to their fourth defeat.
And Woolsery continued to close the gap, inspired by a first-half hat-trick from Mischa Howe against Northam Lions.Sam Bissett wrapped up a 4-0 win with a solo effort after the break.
The same scoreline was good enough for Anchor against Lynton and Lynmouth, with all the goals coming in the second half.
Steve Hollingsworth, Jamie Rockey and Tim Durbin put them in control before new signing Brynn Waldon stepped off the bench to head the fourth with only his second touch.
Waldon's former club Buckland Brewer missed out against Ilfracombe Town who edged in front thanks to joint player-boss Neil Reed.
The manager admitted that strike was as "rare as hen's teeth" and was glad to see Combe get back to winning ways after a second strike from Tom Goldsworthy.
Last week Braunton hit back from 3-1 down to draw against Torrington but this time they were on the wrong end of a fightback from Sporting Barum.
David Mason, James O'Sullivan and Dale Darch opened up a 3-1 half-time lead before Jonny Green and Ben Walters (two) gave Sporting a share of the spoils.
Clovelly and Equalizers both recovered from conceding the first goal to hit four in reply.
Nathan Delaune put Merton one up against Equalizers before Matt Hawkins and a perfect hat-trick from Darren Floyd turned the game.
Floyde netted a sidefoot volley and thumping header, then rounded the goalkeeper to leave Merton without a win at Rock Park in nine years.
High Bickington grabbed the lead at Clovelly through Aaron Moan but his afternoon went downhill when a late penalty was saved by Buzz Burton.
By then, two excellent finishes from Alex Farmer put the hosts on top and they made sure of the points through Marten 'Pirate' Stanbury and Robin Kearney.
