A MAN with breathing problems was airlifted from Croyde beach by Chivenor's 22 Squadron at around 12.30pm on Monday.

The man, who has a medical condition, had become light-headed while surfing.

The man made his own way back to shore but then passed out on the beach.

Lifeguards gave the man oxygen and put him in the recovery position.

He was airlifted to North Devon District Hospital.

His condition was not thought to be life threatening.

    “Tom.
A man with breathing difficulties would have been deemed life threatening at the time surely. However, after being flown to hospital and treated the risk could then have been lowered.
If it were you on the beach would you have complained about being taken to hospital via the fastest route?

    I didn't think so.
Hope the man makes a speedy recovery.”
