Swan hits overheard cable and lands on motorway causing traffic problems on M5
A swan caused traffic problems on the M5 in Devon today.
The bird hit an overhead cable and landed on the southbound carriageway of the motorway near Exeter shortly after 11am.

It was spotted on the hard shoulder by a member of the public who contacted the emergency services.
The fire service sent a specialist rescue team from Exeter to the scene. A crew from the RSPCA also attended.

The animal rescue team managed to secure the swan, which was uninjured, and the duty of care was left with the RSPCA.
Speed restrictions were put in place on the motorway for a couple of hours while the incident was dealt with.
The speed limit was reduced to 50mph between the A376 turn off at Junction 30 and the A30 turn off at Junction 31.
