"We try to make the things we teach as relevant and interesting as possible. For example, just before the summer we took year 10 on a new field trip to Plymouth to investigate urban redevelopment in Devonport and the city centre.

"Geography is an amazing subject to learn about, it's about everything going on around us."

Mr Marston said his colleagues have been supportive.

He said: "I could not have done this alone. So for me the award recognises all the hard work and dedication by our geography staff past and present, both teachers and teaching assistants.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to Natalia Moors, Angela Dalzell, Kristen Mounce and Kathy Cook in our current team, but also send fond regards to Dave Glover, Alex Simpson, John Hayes, June Bryant and Emma Kinsella.

"Finally, I would like to thank our pupils for being a real pleasure to work with over the years."
