Taw Valley close in on title in West Clubs Women's Hockey League

TAW VALLEY can wrap up the Sedgemoor first division title in the West Clubs Women's League on Saturday.

A win against second-placed Cheddar at the Park Community School, Barnstaple, this week would guarantee them first place with two matches to play.

A steady flow of goals took Taw to their 13th successive victory at Taunton.
A good piece of skill saw Keely Jones find the net in the opening two minutes.
Not long after, Harriet Chambers made it 2-0, then, shortly before half time, Charlotte Beauchamp deflected the third past the keeper.
Taw Valley continued to show the good teamwork they have been building all season with some good two-versus-ones plays from Helen Thomas, Sally Langford and Kate Bowman-Openshaw.
Taunton made a few breaks in the second half but the danger was soon cleared by keeper Barbara Thomas.
Jo Yeaxlee-Batch was next to score after some individual skill, then Beauchamp completed a hat-trick with a strike from the edge of the D and a deflection from Helen Johnson.
Taw Valley II made it two wins in a row with a 7-0 win over Minehead II in the Sedgemoor second division.
North Devon's men piled the pressure on East Devon in the second half but they were unable to stop them going top of the league.
The home side were able to secure a 3-1 victory that put them a point clear in Davis Wood League southern one.
East Devon put North Devon under pressure from the off and it was only a matter of time before they scored, doing so in the tenth minute with a strike from the edge of the D.
North Devon improved and, within five minutes, levelled with a great finish by Pete Smale. Soon after, Smale had a chance to get his second but was denied by the keeper.
Just before half time, East Devon made it 2-1 with a deflection past Sam Wormington.
North Devon pressed forward with a strong performance from Andy Buller in midfield but they were unable to capitalise on a number of short corners, even when East Devon were down to ten men for five minutes following a yellow card.
Smale was sin-binned in the last ten minutes and, despite strong defending from man of the match Matt Brown, East Devon were able to kill the game off with a well-worked goal.
North Devon A suffered a double defeat in south east one, losing 8-0 at home to Isca C on Saturday and 10-0 at Taunton Vale C on Sunday.
