'Playful' bird of prey taken into captivity
An eagle owl with a 6ft wingspan has been captured after people in a North Devon street complained it was terrorising them and their pets. But the decision to take the huge raptor into captivity has divided opinion in Northam. While some welcomed the move, saying the owl was attacking people, others said the bird was just being playful. Police were called to investigate whether the owl had been caught legally. The eagle owl is thought to be the same bird which has been seen in a number of places in North Devon since September last year.

“Residents objections have been that this bird was illegally caught without a licence. Agencies have become involved because it is illegal for a member of the public to just take a bird of prey from the wild. If this Bird needed to be placed back into captivity it should have been done by the proper authorities set up to legally make those decisions.
At the time of capture Owls r us did not have a licence from Natural England to take the owl, indeed the driver of the van that took the owl away stated ' Natural England are up their own a**e, and I don't need a licence'. Therefore this act was illegal. Who gave the authority for this capture to take place prior to the event? This question has been avoided time and time again......”
