Thief steals Lorna Doone’s gravestone from Exmoor churchyard
Lorna Doone's gravestone has been stolen from an Exmoor churchyard.
The headstone bears the same name as the fictional character from RD Blackmore's famous 19th century novel.

Police said the stone marked the grave of a Lorna Doone Ridd and was stolen from St Martin's church in Martinhoe sometime between October 22 and 25.
Lorna Doone: A Romance of Exmoor was published in 1869 and was set in the 17th century in the East Lyn Valley area of Exmoor.

However the character was fictional and the fact that the gravestone bears the same name is purely coincidental.
PC Martin Beck is appealing for anyone who may have any information regarding the theft to ring 101 quoting crime number CI/12/121.
