Traders encourage more town events
HIGH street traders in Torrington aim to put on more events after the success of a walk through fashion show.
Kiz Angell of the recently formed Torrington Town Traders says a town centre festival was such a hit they are hoping to put on more events.
She said: "There was a real buzz in the town and the pannier market.
"There was a walk-through-the-town fashion show that everyone enjoyed and the atmosphere was fantastic."
"Now we have applied for a grant so we can pay for insurance for 15 more events.
"We would like to hold a Christmas fair, put on a motorbike show, do things that will bring people into the town."
The Torrington Together festival served as a red hot entrée to the main event of the day, the Torrington Cavaliers' castle burning in the evening.
Kiz said: "We held the event on the afternoon of the bonfire as we knew more people would be about.
"Although the shops were busier it was the pannier market and cafés that really benefited, lots of people were eating before going to the bonfire.
"And lots of bonfire goers took a stroll around the town before going on, and overall the festival was a success"
The festival was aimed at bringing more people into Torrington to showcase the town and its shops.
Festival parking was free, courtesy of Torridge District Council, and there were stalls and events in the square.
