MR Ken Slow writes (Journal, July 15) that 'It is not universally accepted that fossil fuels cause global warming'.

Quite so, but let's look at the figures. Over 97 per cent of climate change scientists, including Britain's eminent Royal Society, do believe this, while less than three per cent do not. (These figures, widely reported, were published on June 21 by the National Academy of Sciences of the United States).

If over 97 out of 100 surveyors give you evidence that your house needs to be fixed because otherwise it's going to become uninhabitable, wouldn't you be inclined to believe them?

Deciding to go with the three who say you don't need to bother doesn't seem that great as a basis on which to gamble with your future, let alone the futures of your kids and their kids.
