VIDEO: Boyfriend proposes to Braunton girlfriend with help from boyband McFly
CHRISTMAS is the time for giving but one gift Tegan Lywood wasn’t expecting was an engagement ring.
She had arranged to meet her actor boyfriend Ben Beechey in the George Hotel, Braunton, on Friday evening, after a meal at the nearby Squires fish and chip shop with her work colleagues.
What she didn’t know was that he had organised a surprise proposal, together with a specially recorded message from her favourite band McFly.

Tegan, 24, of Braunton, met Ben, 28, while they were both working on a cruise ship: she in the shop and he as a singer.
They have been together for just over seven months.
He said: “It was a bit hit and miss to start off with. She didn’t want to get into a relationship on the ship and I was a bit like that, too, because I have been burned in the past.
“But we spent a day together in Gibraltar; she took me for the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Then, after that, I was hooked.”
Ben, who is from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, had already got the ring, after visiting a couple of antique shops in Barnstaple with Tegan’s mum, Theresa.
Best friends and family also arrived for the big event at the George but kept out of the way until he popped the big question.
Making the night even more special was a recorded message from McFly on the hotel’s big projector screen.
Ben said: “Tegan is completely mad about McFly. She has followed them everywhere over the years.”
It just so happened he was a mutual friend with one of the wives and arranged through her for the band to record a personal message.
They wished Tegan a merry Christmas and then band member Tom Fletcher said that Ben had something to ask her: that was his cue to propose.
Tegan, who works at Blue Gallery and Roman women’s wear in Barnstaple, said ‘yes’.
