VIDEO & PHOTOS: Burst bank causes muddy water to surge through Clovelly
THE sea was stained brown at Clovelly today after a bank burst sending a torrent of muddy water pouring down the village's famous cobbled street.
Sue Haworth from Clovelly Estates said some people were unable to leave their houses and others could not get back to their homes after the water began gushing down the street towards the harbour.

Video taken by resident Ellie Jarvis shows water pouring through a hole in a wall near the Victorian Fountain, near the top of the steep cobbled street that runs through the picture postcard fishing village.

On Twitter @ClovellyVillage said: “Clovelly Village is currently battling a flood... Reports so far that no one has been injured as the community rallies!”
And @_ojody said: “Clovelly has flooded so bad, didn't even think it was possible for it to be like this.”
@Seasidedolly said: "There's a huge hole in the middle of the street where all the drains have fallen in."
The road has now been closed at the top of the village for safety reasons.
Following heavy downpours overnight and this morning, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said it had received several reports of flooding across North Devon, especially in the Clovelly area.
Parents are advised to contact local schools to make alternative arrangements to collect their children.
Woolsery School is advising parents whose children travel to and from school on buses to ring the school directly to arrange alternative travel arrangements.
