PROFESSIONAL John Van Emmenis missed out on points in his rematch with Kingsteignton's Jamie Speight at the Riviera Centre in Torquay.

Referee Grant Wallis had the pair tied going into the final round of an absorbing super featherweight clash.

But Speight, who also got the decision in their previous meeting last October, clinched it over the last of six rounds.

He displayed more variety in his punches while Bideford's JVE operated a resolute guard, leaving few openings for his rival to exploit.

Van Emmenis said: "That was closer than the first time around and, yes, I'm ready for a third fight with Jamie.

"The crowd enjoyed it so if it is offered, I'd certainly step into the ring with him again."

● Two young boxers from Barnstaple ABC gave great accounts of themselves in their first bouts.

Charlie Burbidge, 13, battled hard before being stopped in the second round against home boxer Jake Wade at the Newquay Leisure Centre.

Jamie Jones missed out on points against Sam Fletcher of the National Smelting Club in Bristol.
