Way, Slee first
SAILING
CHOPPY conditions greeted sailors for the third race of North Devon Yacht Club's winter series.
One Spitfire, two Dart 18s, nine Sprint 15s and one 505 took to the water on Saturday, with Rob Way and Penny Slee returning first.
Annette Maddison sailed her Sprint 15 to second place. Barry Vincent was third.
On Sunday, for the fourth meeting, ten sailors took part and the force 4 to 5 winds made for exciting racing.
Way and Slee led from start to finish while there was an epic battle for second. Keith Heason got ahead of Geoff Mitchell at the start of lap two and, as Mitchell capsized, Heason pulled clear of the Dart 18s and more than six minutes clear of the next Sprint 15.
Gary Jennings and crew came third, while John Farr and his daughter were fourth.
The final two races of the winter series are on November 13 and 14.
