Wheels back on for vintage vehicle display
THE wheels are back on for a popular annual vintage vehicle event which is returning this summer to Braunton.
The Calvert Trust is now sponsoring the Braunton Wheels event and it will be held on Sunday July 25.
Braunton Wheels had run successfully for ten years every summer up until 2005.
The spectacle attracted dozens of classic motor enthusiasts who went to see the vintage cars and vehicles on display.
Now Braunton Parish Council has granted permission for it to be staged on the Recreation Ground this year.
The Calvert Trust provides outdoor activities for disabled people from a 40-acre site on Exmoor and decided to bring back the Braunton Wheels extravaganza to help it raise its profile locally.
Rachel Shortridge, a fundraising assistant for the Calvert Trust, said: "The date for the event has traditionally been the last Sunday in July so we are holding with that tradition.
"The school holidays will have just begun and holiday-makers will be around so the event should be well attended.
"All we need it for someone to guarantee the weather."
"Visitors to past Wheels Event will remember that all modes of transport were on display at the show such as ancient bicycles and double decker buses, motor bikes and vintage cars, steam engines and tractors — the list goes on.
"In fact anything with wheels is welcome.
"The day should be a great family fun day as, in addition to all the wheeled exhibits, there will be amusements for all the family, trade stands, charity stalls and refreshments.
"The organisers would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to display their wheels at the event.
Also traders and charities are welcome to contact the organiser."
