Leading 2-0 at the interval, they survived a nervy second half for a result that moved them up three places.

With difficult away games at Shamwickshire Rovers and Bradworthy before Christmas, it was a vital three points for Kevin Fishwick's young team.

Hallum Cook slotted the opening goal and the problems for Barnstaple AAC increased with injuries for Billy Hinson and goalkeeper Barry Camp before half time.

Darren Woolway and Danny Rigler went on in their place, leaving no other options on the bench for the visitors in the second half.

Nathan Davis, with an energetic display on the wing, crossed for Mike Jones to volley Appledore's second goal.

And despite a bright start to the second half, pulling a goal back through Oliver Rigler, the Ammies slipped to their third straight defeat.

Jay Goddard, the left back making his return from a hip injury, ran from the halfway line and picked out Cook who settled the match with his fifth goal of the season.
