A PEDESTRIAN was injured in a hit and run accident in Barnstaple.

Police said the woman was hurt when a motorist failed to stop at a red light.

It is thought the driver may have been using a mobile phone when the accident happened.

The accident happened at about 3.15pm on Sunday at the pedestrian crossing on Bickington Road near the Roundswell/Cedars roundabout.

The woman suffered injuries to her foot when the dark red Peugeot vehicle drove over it. The driver did not stop.

A member of the public was said to have seen the incident but did not remain at the scene.
