Woman involved in single car crash on the A386 at Station Hill in Torrington

A woman was involved in a single car collision after her vehicle crashed into a wall at the bottom of Station Hill in Torrington last night.

The crash happened at around 8pm as the black Vauxhall Corsa was travelling from Torrington towards Bideford on the A386.

The vehicle crashed into the wall of the bridge which goes over the Tarka Trail by the Puffing Billy and bounced on to the opposite side of the road, narrowly missing a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

The woman, in her 20s, was the only person in the car.

Police and one fire crew attended the scene to make the vehicle safe as it was thought petrol was leaking from the fuel tank. This turned out not to be the case.

The woman, who was believed to have been drinking, was taken into police custody.

Traffic was directed while the vehicle was removed from the road.
