BUDDING car designers from across the Torrington area have been taking part in a competition.

Some 350 children from 10 primary schools have been building fan-powered cars in the Wonderstruck Science Competition.

The fastest car from each school will be competing in the final at Great Torrington School tomorrow afternoon.

Pupils will also have to give a presentation of their cars and receive points for innovation and build quality.

Judging will be carried out by four representatives from local science and engineering businesses.

Rachel Brennan, head teacher of the Clinton and Dolton primary schools said: "The competition has been good fun as well.

"There's been a real buzz around the school and some of the children have even been working on it during their dinner time. Its brilliant to see them so motivated."

Peter Wright, director of Wonderstruck said: "It's really important to get children using the science they learn in class in innovative ways and working in a team is a crucial part of that."
