Go-ahead for resurfacing
PLANS to resurface an area of Fore Street in Ilfracombe have been narrowly passed by Devon County Council's highways committee.
The junction between Fore Street and Broad Street was resurfaced in a buff coloured material in April last year.

But the job was rushed to meet the deadline for a royal visit from Prince Edward and the surface has since become discoloured, patchy and stained with dog mess and chewing gum.
Ilfracombe Town Council requested that the work be redone and finished in a different material which was more in keeping with the town's historic built environment.

The new surface, a type of paving known as Tegula, will cost £110,000.
Some £45,000 will come from Devon County Council (DCC), £14,117 from Ilfracombe county councillor Geoff Fowler's Investing In Devon fund, £30,000 from North Devon Council and £21,593 from Ilfracombe Town Council.
The plans were discussed by DCC's highways and traffic orders committee (HATOC) on October 23.
HATOC chairman Councillor Rodney Cann said there was criticism of the plans.
He said: "Some members saw this as a purely cosmetic exercise.
"They asked how such spending could be justified when there are potholes elsewhere in the county which need filling."
Of the seven members of the committee, two voted against the proposal, three voted in favour and two members abstained.
It is understood the work is due to commence in January, 2013.

“the money would be better spent sorting out some of the more disgusting sites round the town
why not use the money to turn just one of these sites into residents parking !
the site of the collingwood would make a nice carpark while witherspoons make us wait for it to be developed !”
