ARTIST Ken Hildrew's Owl Exhibition opens at South Molton's Exmoor Gallery on Friday.

Ken has used imagination, memory and recent encounters to try and convey the magic these birds of prey hold for him.

"I have had a lifelong love of owls and have drawn and painted them for as long as I can remember," he said. "My first encounter with was on holiday with my family just after the war. We were staying on a farm near Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. The farmer took my brother and me into a barn and showed us four young owls high in the beams.

"I spent the rest of my holiday crouched behind a bale of straw watching the parent birds coming in to feed them.

"They have a particular quality of which I never tire, and I hope that people who come to the gallery to see this exhibition can begin to share my enthusiasm."

The exhibition opens on Friday, December 7 at The Exmoor Gallery, in Photoscene, South Molton and runs until the end of March. There will be a welcoming glass of wine and nibbles. Ken will be there from 6pm to 8.30pm to talk about his work, his inspiration and painting techniques.
