CYCLISTS are gearing up for the North Devon Hospice's annual Devon Coast-to-Coast Challenge.

A record-breaking 350 cyclists have signed up for the eighth annual event taking place on Sunday, June 5.

Organiser, Simon Paddon said: "With a month until the event we have already surpassed 350 people signed up which means this year's ride will be the biggest and best we have ever done.

"The atmosphere will be fantastic and if you have never experienced cycling with this many people before, I can't recommend it enough.

"It's a wonderful feeling, and doing it all to raise money for the North Devon Hospice makes it extra special."

The event raised £30,000 for the charity last year and the organisers are hoping to raise a further £5,000.

Riders will start and finish the Bideford Bay Children's Centre in Victoria Park this year. Two routes are available and cyclists can travel 70 or 100 miles.

Emma Lowe, from North Devon Hospice's fundraising team said: "Having taken part a few times myself, I can say first-hand what an amazing experience it is.

"There is a great sense of camaraderie, and we get cyclists of all abilities taking part, from complete novices to experienced cyclists.

"By taking part in the cycle, you are also helping to make a real difference to the lives of people cared for by North Devon Hospice."

South Fork Cycles in Braunton has offered a £100 prize to the person who raises the most sponsorship.
