It's picnic time in Braunton

Thursday, October 30, 2008, 07:00

BRAUNTON now has a new picnic area in the centre of the village courtesy of Tesco and Costain.

Braunton Parish Council chairwoman Jasmine Chesters officially opened the new picnic area (above).

The transformed land was an area of scrub next to John Wensley's Newsagent in the village.

The parish council and Braunton Rotary have been trying to get something done about the land for more than a year.

Tesco commissioned Costain, who built their new Braunton store, to convert the area, and it now has two picnic tables and three benches. Norman Green, the Braunton Tesco store manager, said: "We hope that this facility will be used and enjoyed by all."

Cllr Chesters said: "It's something the parish council and the Rotary were working on, so it's great Costain decided to take it on."
