Appeal launched in Combe Martin to send gifts to Romania
Thursday, October 16, 2008, 07:00
Jean, who lives in Church Street, will make this her 13th year of organising the collections for orphaned and deprived children in Romania.
Last year she showed her determination and continued with the appeal, despite recovering from cancer.
But this year she said: "I couldn't find anyone to take it on, and a lot of people couldn't afford to do it — but the thought of those little faces just spurred me on."
Jean appeals for the boxes, gift wrapped and marked whether they are for a girl or a boy, to be with her by the first week in November.
Donations can include practical gifts, such as mittens, scarves, toothpaste and soap — or a mixture which includes small toys, balls, pocket games, sweets, but not chocolate, colouring books and crayons.
They also should include two pound coins taped to the lid, to cover the cost of postage.
