Football mad Danny gets answer to his proposal

Thursday, October 30, 2008, 14:15

THE LUCKY lady has said yes!

Football fanatic Danny Turton proposed to his girlfriend Kerry Holloway via the sports pages of today's Journal .

And after an anxious wait, the Combe Martin goalkeeper got the answer he was looking for.

"She has agreed to marry me so it's a great result all round," beamed Danny.

"She doesn't normally read the sports pages so I had to point her in the right direction.

"I had to give her a nudge — I said 'oh look there's a piece about me in the paper', so she started reading it.

"When she got to the end, she was like 'oh my God'.

"She said yes, she'll marry me unless Fernando Torres asks her in the meantime!"

Plans are now under way for the wedding, but of course, in the short term, Danny is more concerned about the weekend's big match against Barnstaple AAC.

Footballing mates have already been on the phone offering plenty of good-natured banter.

"I've been getting loads of stick," said Danny.

"I've had loads of text messages saying 'soppy git' and 'some people will do anything to get themselves in the paper'."

When he was asked to complete a player profile for the Journal , Danny saw the perfect chance to pop the question.

He said: "We've been talking about getting married lately but I was struggling to come up with a way of proposing that was memorable.

"Now we're going to work out how much it's going to cost and how much we need to save before we put a date down.

"Perhaps it will be next year, but we'll see what happens. The more extravagant the plans, the longer it will take — but she's the boss."
