Indoor cricket champions beaten in opener

Thursday, October 09, 2008, 07:00

THE first round of matches in the North Devon Indoor Cricket League produced one major upset.

Last year's champions, Newton Tracey, were well and truly beaten by Filleigh, who racked up a massive 140 runs off Tracey's hapless bowlers as the ever dependable Simon Prideaux led the way. Tracey fell well short of their target.

Craig Horrell, making a timely return to Lynton, held their innings together as they squeezed past Raleigh by 16 runs. Henry McEndoo put in a fine all round performance for Raleigh.

Nomansland beat Bishops Nympton in the closest game of the week, overtaking their target of 103 in the last over.

Victoria Park's Ian Brown made the top score of the week (53) as well as taking two wickets but still finished comfortably on the losing side against North Molton.

Hele Bay easily beat Willows, the only surprise was seeing last year's leading batsman Dave Cresswell out second ball without scoring.
