Trescothick benefit match is a big hit

Thursday, September 18, 2008, 07:00

MORE than £4,000 was raised when Marcus Trescothick's Somerset team took on Bideford in a Twenty20 challenge.

The proceeds of last month's match at Westward Ho! will go to Trescothick's benefit fund and the Children's Hospice South West at Fremington.

Organiser Jim Lowe paid tribute to "the many members and friends of the club who worked so hard to make the day one of the biggest in the club's history".

Trescothick and Ian Blackwell were among the stars on show as the Somerset XI beat Bideford by 13 runs.

Bideford hope to add to the funds when Trescothick attends a benefit dinner at the Royal Hotel on Friday, November 14. The event will be hosted by former Test umpire David Shepherd.

Tickets are £25 each or £20 if a table of 10 is booked and paid for at the same time. They can be booked through the Royal Hotel Bideford on 01237 472005. The hotel is also offering accommodation at a discounted price.
