Yeo is the top batsman

LYNTON and Lynmouth cricketer Ed Yeo achieved the highest batting average in the North Devon Holiday Homes League.

Yeo averaged a stunning 101 over the summer, a figure aided by his remarkable 202 against Newton Tracey in August.

The top batters and bowlers from all five divisions were announced at the League's awards night.

Heathcoat's Sam Smith, who secured a best bowling average of 10.8 in Division Two, also won a new award — the William Basford Cup for the young player of the year.

Top averages. Division 1 — batting: Ed Yeo (Lynton) 101. Bowling: Jason Hayes (North Devon) 12.75.

Division 2 — batting: James Ford (Westleigh) 51.13. Bowling: Sam Smith (Heathcoat) 10.8.

Division 3 — batting: Jamie Overton (North Devon) 73.19. Bowling: Alex Elston (Incorrigibles) 11.21.

Division 4 — batting: Martin Bray (Shebbear) 84.63. Bowling: Sam Hockin (Bude) 10.86.

Division 5 — batting: Guy Loosemore (North Molton) 32.29. Bowling: Charlie Williams (Weare Giffard) 19.15.
