A crisp white shirt for spring
THERE is always something exciting about visiting a boutique and trying on new clothes. In Barnstaple's Vienna in Gammon Walk, Penny put together the following daytime look for Rebecca Domleo from Chapelton.
White shirt (£97), jeans (£49.50), Cardicoat (£68.75), necklace (£15), leather bag (£123). Total outfit: £353.25.
"I have gone for a new take on a wardrobe staple — the white shirt," said style and colour consultant Penny Blower. "It gives a fresh feel to your favourite jeans and will take you almost anywhere. What better time to invest in this classic piece than the spring just before the summer collections arrive? A really good white shirt will make you feel and look ready for anything."
This particular white shirt has wire in the collar and the cuffs making it possible to create different looks depending how much and which way you bend the wire.
"Stretch it out and you have a full dramatic collar, stroke it down and you have a less dramatic look," said Penny. "It has to be seen to be believed!"
Rebecca at first wasn't sure about the white shirt.
"I tend to avoid ruffles because I think they are going to make me look frumpy and older. I would never pick something like this normally. However when I tried it on, I thought it looked really quite special. You could wear it during the daytime but also to an evening do with a skirt or really nice trousers."
For a special occasion, such as a wedding, a graduation ceremony or a dinner date Penny felt a dramatic red dress with a bolero top would bring out Rebecca's colouring and give definition to her waist.
"The sparkly jewellery too works well with her clear, bright colouring," added Penny.
Red dress (£72), bolero (£27), necklace (62.50), bag: (£25). Total outfit: £186.50.
Rebecca's verdict?
"It's lovely! I think it would be great for a special occasion. Penny said it was just right for my colouring with my darker hair and I was very pleased with it."
"I don't tend to go into boutiques because I'm always worried that someone will pounce on me and I will feel obliged to buy something but I had a good time trying on things in this shop which has some really lovely bags and jewellery."
Rebecca found a consultation with Penny extremely useful. Knowing what colours and styles suit her means she can now avoid making expensive mistakes.
"I tend to hone in on colour then look at the styles to suit my body shape. In the long run it has saved me quite a lot of money and time."
