Oh dear,on a recent weekend nostalgic trip to my home town of Barnstaple I was saddened to see how run down the old town has become. What a shame there are so many empty crumbling shops right in the centre, the poor standard of eating venues, the empty town in the day and threatening atmosphere at night, the down market shops selling cheap quality goods, generally a town on the slippery slope,no way back I fear...."Rough" is the word that springs to mind.
I shall return in a few years no doubt,I still have fond memories of Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe. Lynton and Lynmouth were delightful by the way. Hopefully there will be some improvement but I fear not.”
